Bioenvironmental Engineering

Bioenvironmental Engineering offers occupational and environmental health expertise and responds to hazardous materials accidents/incidents to provide health risk assessments to commanders. BE employs these skills in routine/special surveillance of industrial workplaces and during emergency responses. BE provides quantitative fit testing services for military gas masks and industrial respirators. BE evaluates the base drinking water quality to ensure it is safe to drink. BE monitors the heat stress condition during the summer months and recommends appropriate hydration and work-rest cycles. The Chief of BE serves as the Installation Radiation and Laser Safety Officer.

How and when to schedule a QNFT: QNFT services for both military gas masks and industrial respirators will provided throughout the week by appointment. Please call to set up a fit test as walk-ins may be turned away due to mission requirements. IAW AFI 48-137, military gas mask QNFT is only required once per lifetime or upon arrival at the first permanent duty station. QNFT will be re-accomplished if a new size or type of mask is issued, the wearer gains/loses 10% or more of body weight following completion of the initial QNFT, or the wearer experiences extensive dental work, facial surgery, scarring, or disfigurement. Industrial respirators require fit testing and training each year.
